The Brussos adopted their dog, Duke, from an orphanage in Portland, Connecticut. Duke is not satisfied with life in the orphanage, but gradually becomes the perfect companion for his family.

One night, as the family slept soundly, Duke suddenly ran into his parents' room and jumped onto their bed.
He was shaking uncontrollably, refusing to carry out any orders given to him. Finally, his mother realized something was wrong.
Duke took his parents to the room of a nine-week-old baby and alerted them to a child who wasn't breathing at all.
Family rushed child to emergency room, doctor saved Harper's life at the last minute!
When Duke made sure his sister was breathing well and she was doing fine, he finally calmed down!
The family shuddered at the thought of what might have happened if Duke hadn't reminded them in time. They are forever grateful to their rescue boy, who is totally unaware that he is a hero!
