A heartbroken mother dog was forced to say goodbye to her puppy after it was adopted in central China.
The mixed-breed stray pooch has been in the care of students at Zhengzhou University in Henan province since mid-September, when she gave birth to a litter of seven puppies.
The video, filmed on Monday, shows the heavy-hearted mother giving her brown pup one final kiss before sending it off with its new owner.
The female owner was seen carrying the small pup in her arms to her scooter, while the worried mother followed them.
The mother dog stopped next to the owner's scooter, head low, tail down, and ears drooping, as if begging to see her baby one more time.
The owner lowered the small pooch to its mother, who kissed it goodbye and licked its face.
The owner was heard assuring the mother dog, 'Don't worry, I'll take good care of your puppy.'
The mother dog then turns its head and struts away, but not before one last look back at her beloved puppy.
The viral video has moved millions of people online, with many commenting that the sad farewell looks like "something straight out of a movie."
