When visiting a nearby convenience shop, an animal enthusiast named Valinda Cortez came across a heartbreaking sight. A soaked and terrified pup stood in the chilling rain, broken by the realisation that he had been abandoned.
When Valinda got out of her car, she noticed an abandoned puppy standing alone in the parking lot. The poor dog was drenched, shivering, matted in fur, and appeared to have discharge from her eyes.
"When I got out of the car, my heart sank," stated Cortez. "This poor baby had been out in the rain and cold for an extended period of time." She was shivering."
Valinda placed a warm blanket around the freezing pup and called a fellow animal rescuer named Sue for assistance. Valinda and Sue bribed the broken pup into the car with beef jerky and dog food, eventually getting him to get in. They then headed to their local animal shelter with their newest rescue in tow, ready to offer her comfort from her agonising situation.
The poor pup was cleaned up once she arrived at the shelter, enabling her coat's real beauty to shine through. Not only had the rain and muck obscured her genuine appearance, but her terrible circumstances had also obscured her kind demeanour. The formerly broken pup began to blossom after being lovingly named Cassie.
"Humans had let her down but hopefully the food, warm blanket and love I gave her will restore her faith in humans." - Cortez, Valinda
Cassie quickly put her prior experiences behind her and grabbed the hearts of everyone who met her. She rapidly became a shelter favourite, prompting the crew to find her the loving home she deserved all along. Cassie was ready to meet her forever family after approximately a month of TLC.
A dog lover named Karen discovered Cassie's story and fell in love with her right away. Cassie reminded her of a cherished dog from her childhood, and she felt she had to be the one to offer her a bright future. Karen and Cassie knew they were destined to be the centre of each other's universe the instant they met.
Karen is now devoted to demonstrating to Cassie how lovely life can be, and Cassie is loving every minute of it. We are eternally thankful to Valinda for rescuing the broken pup on that tragic day, and we know Cassie will have a wonderful life as a result!
