Elderly Rescue Dog Does Everything On His Bucket List, And He’s More Alive Than Ever

Morgan is a senior dachshund that has reached the grand old age of 18. Morgan ended up at Lee County Domestic Animal Services (LCDAS) in Fort Myers, Florida, when his owner died.

When shelter officials realised how old Morgan was, they determined he needed to be moved out of the shelter to a place where he could live out the rest of his days in peace. The shelter decided to contact Senior Paws Sanctuary (SPS) to see if they might help the elderly small dog.

"LCDAS phoned SPS to notify us that an elderly, unadoptable dog had arrived and wanted to know whether we could help him," Morgan's foster mum, Kate Reidy, told The Dodo. "The creator and organiser of SPS went to see Morgan and fell in love."

Morgan went to live with Reidy and her 10-year-old dog, Charlie, because all dogs with SPS are sent to foster homes. Reidy expected Morgan to be a slower, sleepier type of dog because he was already 18, but that was not the case at all.

"I joke and say Morgan has Benjamin Button illness," Reidy went on to remark. "Over the last year of fostering him, he has become more energetic, livelier, and his personality has blossomed." Most people cannot believe his age!"

Morgan adapted quickly to his foster home and started to enjoy every aspect of his new existence. His new mum helped him get into the sofa and bed with his own steps, and he loves to explore his new home.

"He loves being the centre of attention," Reidy remarked. "He loves to snuggle as close to you as he can and will occasionally get up and smell your face just to make sure he knows who he is sitting with!" It's lovely."

No one can be certain of Morgan's first 18 years of existence, or what he got to accomplish or see. His foster mom decided to construct him a bucket list because his foster home seemed to make him livelier and more driven to see the world.

So far, Morgan has gotten to fly on a plane …

… meet a sergeant and become a junior deputy …

… attend a baseball game …

… meet Santa …

… sat on a motorcycle …

… and even partake in beach yoga.

Morgan is a senior citizen, but his age hasn't stopped him from accomplishing anything on his bucket list, and he loves every excursion his mum takes him on.

"He loves to examine new smells and new people, so all of his excursions have been a means for him to explore new locations and new smells," she said. "He loves the attention and affection he receives from meeting new people."

Morgan still has a few things on his bucket list that he would love to cross off, such as riding in a hot air balloon, going to a dog spa day, and even meeting Ellen DeGeneres. Morgan will be 19 soon, and his greatest birthday wish is to receive birthday cards from people all across the world. (His foster mum would also love it if some of these cards had a dollar that he could give to his SPS mates.)

Most 18-year-old dogs would probably prefer to spend the rest of their days snoozing, but Morgan still has so much to see, and he and his mum will not stop until he dies.
