Matt Bentley just found himself in an inconvenient situation. He went out looking for the dog after hearing a dog trap call and hoped to set it free. When he saw her running on a lonely Salt Flats route, he realised how severe the situation was—she was emaciated from famine and nearly bald from scratching against sharp rocks for cover from dust storms.
Matt begged the Utah Animal Adoption Centre to take her when he drove her there. They both agreed right away. This poor dog required extensive medical attention. Soon after, a woman named Jamie heard about the "doggy warrior" and decided to donate money to help the dog through the difficult path ahead. Jamie also named the lovely dog Kelly.
Kelly was very friendly. She approached Jamie after seeing him for the first time, wagging her tail and requesting a pet. Jamie's immediate connection was obvious! Despite the anguish she must have been in and whatever earlier trauma she was dealing with, Kelly made the best of it and maintained a positive attitude for the sake of everyone.
Kelly's rehabilitation appeared to be sluggish, despite her fighting spirit. Jamie was the one who paid the most attention, and he knew that as soon as she was ready, he would adopt her.
Kelly's first day at her new home was fantastic; she walked through the front door and it appeared as if it had always belonged to her. Rocky, Jamie's dog, was delighted to meet Kelly, and by the end of the day, the two were inseparable. Kelly's mending progressed as time went on! Her fur returned completely after fifteen months, and her health was excellent. Jamie feels so grateful for what Matt has done for her that she wishes to re-connect with him. Matt, of course, agreed!
Matt was taken aback when he met Kelly after such a gruelling surgery. To say she was transformed would be an understatement! Jamie thanks Matt repeatedly for saving her life. When he sees this, Matt breaks down in tears because he realises that Kelly might not have survived if it hadn't been for him.
