Stray Puppy Wanders Onto Naval Base And Finds The Hero He Needed To Survive

He chose to save him because he was in a hazardous situation, but now he's surrounded by pure love...

Griffon is one of those dogs who seems to have it all. He'd been on the streets for so long that the 6-month-old stray had given up hope of ever finding a family.

His wandering eventually led him into the arms of a man who saved him in the most improbable of places - a foreign naval base.

"A U.S. Naval Commander saw the little dog and immediately recognised that he wouldn't survive long alone in such a dangerous environment; scooping the pup up into his arms as he was reminded of his unit's motto, 'Those who arrive alive, leave alive,' and he knew it had to apply to this little soul as well," wrote Paws of War, a nonprofit that provides service dogs to veterans and first responders, on Facebook.

It wasn't long before everyone on base heard about Griffon and wanted to meet him.

"As the Commander took up Griffon's care, he built a great attachment with the pup who now accompanies him everywhere," according to the press release. "Little Griffon became a family member." "The puppy brightens everyone's day who meets him."

The hero commander, who will not be named, has opted to adopt Griffon and bring him back to the United States when he returns. While there is little information available, Paws of War spokeswoman Gary Baumann claimed that the commander and Griffon will be reunited soon.

"Griffon is a fantastic puppy," Baumann said, according to The Dodo. "He adores every dog he meets and enjoys eating." He's doing great."

"We're hoping for a reunion soon," Baumann continued. "The commander is from Maryland and has a wife and children to greet Griffon when he returns."
