Elderly Canine Emerges from Storm Drain Trauma, Eager for a Loving Permanent Home

In late May, the Humane Society of Lebanon County (HSLC) in Pennsylvania received an urgent call from local police and fire rescue regarding a dog in a storm drain. The dog appeared dead at first, but as the drain grate was removed, he slowly raised his head.

A volunteer and a staff member arrived at the site right away, knowing that medical care would most certainly be required; it was a heartbreaking sight. The tiny dog had curled up in a ball, apparently near death.

The puppy was gently retrieved, loaded and sent to an emergency veterinarian for prompt medical treatment. Buddy, the 15-year-old dog, had been missing for three weeks, and his owner was promptly discovered.

"When Buddy returned to the HSLC, we made attempts to reconcile him with his owner. We tried repeatedly. We won't go into too much detail because Buddy and getting what he needs are the main emphasis of the story.

Buddy received three days of emergency lifesaving care. His condition slowly improved. And, while Buddy has made significant progress, he is an elderly guy with follow-up medical appointments, ultrasounds, x-rays, and an ophthalmologist visit. Furthermore, Buddy's age forbids him from being sedated, so finding a loving and patient foster home is the best alternative. The shelter will continue to cover all of his medical care, as well as his food and supplements.

Buddy doesn't appear to mind cats and works best with calmer dogs.

"The world is full of negativity, tragedy, and events that we don't completely understand. Please focus on love, support, and healing, and let's find Buddy a foster home!""The journey continues...for Buddy."
